The Junior Makos program is a fantastic first step into the world of swim team!

Junior Makos is designed for children who need in-the-water swim instruction before joining the competitive team.

Beginning the early June and continuing through mid-July, practices are held Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Junior Makos is a safe, fun, and encouraging avenue for becoming a strong swimmer. Coaches will work on developing confidence and safety in the water as well as stroke techniques. Swimmers are evaluated throughout the season and may be referred to the competition team if the coaches and swimmers feel they are ready.

In order to join Junior Makos, a swimmer should be:

  • at least 5 years old,
  • comfortable putting his/her face in the water, and
  • meet certain safety criteria (e.g. be able to float on back and stomach and be able to jump into the pool and return safely to the side).

If you are unsure of whether or not your child meets these criteria or know they are a little rusty after not swimming for the winter, no problem! The coaching staff will work with the kids at the beginning of the season and make recommendations as to whether they are ready for Junior Makos or will need some swim lessons before joining.
