Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the Swimmer’s Registration Fee?

The Summer Swim Team Registration Fee Includes: The swimmer fee, swimmer awards and ribbons throughout the season, end-of-season banquet, team gifts, gifts for coaches and more!

How is a swimmer's age determined for the season?

Swimmers compete and practice in groups according to age. A swimmers' age for the season is determined by actual age as of June 1 of the current year. If a swimmer's birthday falls after June 1, his/her "age" for competition will still be the age he/she was as of June 1. For example, if a swimmer turns 13 on July 10th, his "age" for the entire swimming season would be 12 since he was 12 on June 1.

Does my swimmer have to be a member of Forest Lakes Pool to be a member of the swim team?

Yes. The Lynchburg Aquatic League rules require pool membership in order to be a member of the swim team. Members of the neighborhood association are automatically pool members. Forest Lakes Pool also offers a variety of public membership options to accommodate your family's needs and budget including family and individual memberships.

We missed the open house and informational meeting, can we still join?

Yes! You can join at any time. Please see the Registration page for more information.

Are we required to buy team swimsuits in order to swim in meets?

Team suits are designed for competitive swimming and make it easier to identify our swimmers at meets, but they are not required. We highly encourage swimmers wear an all black swim suit if they are unable to purchase the team suit.

We will need to miss practices and meets due to planned family vacations and camps. Can we still join the team?

Yes. We understand that this is a summer recreation league and you may need to miss practice or meets for other planned activities. We only require, when possible, that you let us know in advance that your swimmer(s) will not be competing in a meet.

My swimmer has never been on a competitive team before and does not know all of the swimming strokes, can he/she still join F.A.S.T.?

Yes! We welcome swimmers of all abilities. Participating in a summer league is a fantastic way to strengthen and develop new skills in a fun and encouraging environment. Swimmers are placed in groups according to their coaching needs and you will be amazed at how much they progress over the course of the season. We also offer the Junior Makos for swimmers who are not yet ready to compete in meets.

Can we try the team before we join?

Yes. If you would like to come and see what F.A.S.T. is all about before you join, you are welcome to try for FAST member, and FLPOA may require a pool membership even for the evaluation period.
